Ongar and District Community Association Events

Our next afternoon event is on the Sunday 21st July, 3pm to 5pm. Entertainment will be from The Rolling Bones, The Stag Pub’s Resident Band. Tickets £7.00, are available from Nerissa and Claire’s coffee bar and restaurant and includes tea and biscuits.

If you have come to any of our Comedy Club Nights you will know how popular these are. The next one is on 16th August. Our Comedy Club nights nearly always sell out, so to avoid disappointment, remember to book your tickets at www.laughingchili.co.uk, scrolling down to find Ongar (there is also a link on our new website.) The door and bar open at 7.30pm, and the show starts at 8.30pm.

Other News and Updates

A reminder that the Ballroom will be used as a polling station on July 4th, due to the General Election, so there will be some changes to the usual Thursday timetable.

You may have noticed that some scaffolding was erected early in June. This was to facilitate the repair of some slipped tiles which has now been completed.

Following the redecoration of the Ladies Cloakroom, the old curtains have been replaced with blue, vertical blinds and an oak windowsill installed, both of which enhance the fresh, new look.

The planned refurbishment and upgrade of the ballroom will take place in January and February next year. The ballroom will be closed during that period. Classes will be accommodated upstairs in the Concert Hall where possible during this time. This major project will include upgrading the electrics and lighting, as well as redecoration. The old lighting will be replaced with a dimmable LED system, including directional LED spotlights. Air conditioning will be installed for both heating and cooling. The work will also include the installation of a disabled stairlift from the ballroom to the bar area and toilets. We hope that you agree that these substantial improvements will greatly enhance the facilities for everyone. Prior to the ballroom refurbishment, some preparatory work, including upgrading the electricity supply, will be undertaken.

Should you require it, we now have a baby changing facility in the Accessible Toilet. Please note that our toilets are for users of Budworth Hall or Nerissa and Claire’s café only and are not for public use. Public toilets are located just across the road, near the bus stop.

A reminder that we now have a Maglock installed on the door to prevent unauthorised entrance. If you are attending a class or a function, please wait for the door to be opened by the organiser, which will normally be 10 to 15 minutes before the start time. The Maglock will then be engaged and the door locked. We thank you for observing this system and understanding that it is to protect the hall and keep everyone safe.

The ODCA are all volunteers giving up their time to keep Budworth Hall running for the local community, and to plan improvements. We are fortunate to have received grants to help towards the cost of some of the renovation work. If you feel would like to help, or have any skills which you think might be useful to us, please get in touch and become a Friend of Budworth Hall. We always welcome extra help and support.

Remember to check our new website https://www.budworthhall.co.uk, our social media pages and notice board to keep up to date with information about events being held in the hall.
