A New Start!

The Ongar and District Community Association (known locally as the Budworth Hall) held their Annual General Meeting on Thursday 14th July 2022, at which Roger and Mary Roles resigned after many years’ service. An AGM had not been held since 2019 due to Covid, so it was long overdue.

At the meeting a new chairman, Paul Keska, and vice chairman, Derek Birch, were appointed and a new committee of 11 volunteers is in place to explore new opportunities for the hall. Due to the difficulties of the last two years, there is much to do, including repairs and maintenance and the new committee is eager to get the building back to full action as soon as possible.

The plan is to refurbish the hall in phases, and make it available for both day and evening hire, expanding its usage to make it more community based than it has been in recent times. The bar will reopen for events and there is the possibility of catering being provided by Nerissa & Claire’s Coffee Bar and Restaurant.

The Ongar and District Community Association look forward to organising exciting events to bring the community of Ongar together.

It will also be the home of the Ongar History Society with space made available for displays of notable photos, documents and items of interest.
